about

This song talks about how boring our lives can seem (“the houses, they all looked the same”), until someone who’s different comes along (“ ‘til we discovered all her colors”). And how people who are different than us can be misunderstood (“people wondered what she meant…when she wore a coat of purple”). With hints of Norah Jones, this tune suggests that when people of different races, sexual orientations, religions & countries of origin live together we discover a better life in “the town of rainbows”.

lyrics

In the town where I live
houses all looked the same
She opened a shop full of rainbows
when she arrived on the noontime train

Houses they all looked the same
‘til we discovered all her colors
When she arrived on the noontime train
and my neighbor choose a green

In the town
in the town
in the town where I live

In the town where I live
streets were gray all the time
She hung a sign that said “rainbows”
people wondered what she meant

Streets were gray all the time
in the night I dreamt of blue skies
People wondered what she meant
when she wore a coat of purple

In the town
in the town
in the town where I live

In the night I dreamt of blue skies
she hung a sign that said “rainbows”
And she wore a coat of purple
in the town where I live

In the town
in the town
in the town where I live
In the town
in the town
in the town of rainbows
